Boebert 2 Words - As the federal Equality Act heads to the Senate, Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert's opposition to the bill's protections for transgender youth has drawn criticism from LGBTQ politicians in Colorado.
"Where is the balance in this law for young women across America who have to watch their backs while they change in the locker room, to make sure that no confused men are trying to watch?" Boebert asked on the Senate floor two days before the final vote, urging his colleagues to vote against the measure.

LGBTQ advocates have sought to pass the law for decades. This legislation would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of characteristics protected under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The bill cleared the Democratic-controlled House by a vote of 224-206. Colorado's four Democratic representatives voted for it. Republicans Ken Buck and Doug Lamborn voted against it. Boebert did not vote.
In his speech, on the floor and at a press conference afterward, Boebert focused on the bill's impact on transgender youth and their families. The bill requires workplaces and public schools to respect people's proper pronouns and names and to ensure they have access to proper restrooms and other facilities.
Boebert called the Equality Act "dangerous" and "disgusting." He concluded by saying, "It's strange: top is bottom, bad is right, left is right, boy is girl and vice versa."

Colorado's state discrimination laws already include gender and sexual orientation. And the Democratic-dominated legislature has taken steps in recent years to expand protections, including making it easier to get revised birth certificates and banning 'conversion therapy' for minors.
