Best Springfield Pistol - I carry a gun because the police are tough. There is a lot of truth in this bit of nonsense. We tend to pack heat because we want to saunter through life oblivious to the criminals walking among us. However, this means that we may have to be independent, at least for a while.
When I took the helicopter to Uncle Sam, we knew we were leaving the wrecked plane with what we had sacrificed for our people and more. This same timeless axiom applies to extraterrestrials. Any real security encounter will be a come-and-go organization.

In this configuration you have access to two 20-round magazines and forty-one rounds in one chamber.
Review: Springfield Armory's Garrison
A long gun locked behind the house, a case of hollowpoint stashed in your basement, or law enforcement assistance a quarter away can be a month to do you good when life goes sideways. That's why Springfield Armory created the 9mm XD-M Elite 3.8.
The XD-M Elite 3.8 features an Ambi slide release, an Ambi pushbutton magazine catch and a Memorybump grip safety.
The new line of XD-M Elite pistols from Springfield Armory consists of several models. The XD-M 4.5 is a service type pistol. It's a gun that can fit in a police holster or sit safely inside your side table. The XD-M Elite 5.25 Precision is a longslide competition rifle. The XD-M Tactical OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) is designed for high octane close range use with a threaded barrel and optic mounting capabilities. The XD-M Elite 3.8, however, is built for something completely different.

Springfield Prodigy: Best Affordable 2011? [hands On Review]
All models feature improved XD-M Elite features over the standard XD-M's ambidextrous slide lock, unique META (Match Enhanced Trigger Assembly) system, removable flared and extended magwell and increased magazine capacity, improved cocking serrations and more.
A solid slide makes concealment easy, while a flared and elongated magwell holds the 20-round magazine in place.
The XD-M Elite 3.8 is first and foremost a practical defense pistol that you can conceal under light clothing. With a stubby 3.8″ Melonite finish with a hammer finish, a U-dot rear rack and a fully integrated guide rod, the XD-M 3.8 offers something that no other concealed carry handgun does. In addition to its purpose-built design, the XD-M 3.8 feeds into a 20-round flush magazine.
Yes, you read that right. A total of twenty-one laps on tape at this point when life gets really tough. Tote out the extra mag that comes with the gun and it holds forty-one rounds. If that doesn't solve your problem, you have bigger fish to fry.
It May Not Have The Capacity That Modern Handguns Have, But I Still Think The 1911 Is The Best Looking Handgun Ever Made.
The rear U-Dot is quick to find and precise to use. Note the fiber optic front sight inrad.
The slide stop is forged on both sides of the pistol, and deep slide serrations are installed front and rear. The extended magazine mounts inside a removable magwell funnel that facilitates quick magazine changes. The front sight has a fiber optic installation and a loaded chamber indicator that is both visually and aurally accessible. The magazine release is a true two-way button.
The XD-M 3.8 has three different safety systems. The grip safety includes a memory bump and activates automatically when you grip the gun. The internal firing pin block will not release the firing pin to contact the cartridge until the trigger is pulled. As soon as your finger touches the trigger, the blade safety located inside the trigger mouth goes off. All three safety systems operate automatically without thought.
Despite its reduced size, the XD-M Elite 3.8 still carries quality accessories like this excellent TLR-1 HL from Streamlight.

The beating heart of all four XD-M Elite pistols is the META trigger system. Designed as the result of a generation of experience linking systems driven by attackers, the flat-faced META results in an integrated channel setup with a rare and uneven personality. The META trigger is at the top of the heap in tactical handgun firing systems.

I wear surgical scrubs to work every day and I'm a pretty skinny guy. Whenever possible I try to pack a full combat rifle. While pocket grips are great for certain applications, full size grips allow for easier control, improved accuracy and more rounds available. The XD-M 3.8 offers all this and more.
It really is a complete gun, so it's undeniably cool. Also, there is a weight to consider with about half of the 9mm box mounted on the grip. However, I can pack the XD-M 3.8 all day with a proper belt and neat carrying accessories without alerting anyone around me or developing a lumbago.

Does the XD-M Elite 3.8 shoot straight? This is to shoot twenty rounds at an easy rest of seven meters.
In the range the XD-M Elite 3.8 really is the best of both worlds. The gun presents quickly, points naturally and performs like a proper service pistol. The META trigger and match grade barrel provide accuracy beyond your typical concealed carry pistol. At a standard engagement range of seven meters you can easily eject a full 20-round magazine and print a perforated hole. In the unlikely event that twenty-one rounds won't do it, the magazine changes as quickly as you can imagine.
In a real safety meeting you will be alone, at least for the first few crucial minutes. With the XD-M Elite 3.8 you get packaging, accuracy, unmatched reliability and enough onboard ammunition to keep the monsters at bay until the cavalry arrives. The XD-M Elite 3.8 is the future of concealed carry pistols.

I like the increased efficiency, improved shooting, and superior maneuverability of big guns, and readily accept the extra weight, bulk, and discomfort as a trade-off.
Springfield Armory's new Hellcat offers shooters an EDC-ready 9mm pistol with an impressive 11+1 scope and the ability to accept small red dot optics.
Springfield Armory Hellcat
Although there are many small guns that I like, the trade-offs associated with them always bring me back to the big guns. With the Hellcat, conventional trade-offs seem to have taken off.
Let's find out what features I consider the most important CCW 9mm pistols and where I think the Hellcat ranks compared to a larger gun.
To change, all I needed was to find a gun that had all the features of a full-fledged gun, but small enough to carry comfortably.
It was always basic physics that seemed to get in the way. That is, until now. There seems to be a pistol that can offer the best of both worlds – full power and CCW-friendly dimensions.

The Hellcat Optical Sight Pistol (OSP) version is shown here with a mounted shield RMSc and finger extension plate for an 11-round magazine.
The Hellcat is a new CCW pistol from Springfield Armory. Chambered in 9mm, the new gun packs 11+1 rounds in the flush magazine and more in the extended magazine.
While I know there are many fans of the .45 ACP and 10mm, I think most people would agree that the 9mm is a powerful cartridge for self defense. With today's defense equipment, I think it's strong enough to handle any two-legged creature.
According to Dennis Rees, CEO of Springfield Armory, the development of this firearm seems to be bent, "It was rooted in one task - to provide the most concealable gun."
