Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, it's impossible to miss Colt's return to the double-action revolver game. The rebooted Snake line of pistols has sparked all kinds of talk, but none more so than the return of the King Cobra .357 Magnum. A rather modest 6-shot revolver that is no longer rated for operation has all the makings of an excellent concealed carry option, especially now that a bent hammer model is on the market.
The King Cobra Carry is nearly identical to the hammer model released in early 2019, except the point has been shaved and it features a 2-inch barrel. These modifications give the revolver excellent carrying properties, the compact barrel allows for easier portability than most .38 snubbie specials. The bent hammer accentuates its already smooth frame.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind with the king cobra. First, the 2-inch barrel won't make magnum performance any easier: it won't reduce to +P .38 standards, but it won't increase either. Besides, all that burning powder has to go somewhere, in a burst of flame from the muzzle. As for the hammer, the weapon is equal to DAO, which you don't have to worry about if you're buying it to carry.
Overall, the stainless steel concealed carry revolver is attractive, with Hogue Overmolded grips and a brass front shell and integral buttplate. The way Rock Island accomplishes this is to ditch the steel-framed revolver aesthetic and focus solely on performance. And the 6-round, 2-inch double-action barrel works. The trigger is surprisingly smooth for a basic revolver, its timing is perfect, and the solid front and rear sights are very accurate. In addition, there is the option of parkerized and matte nickel finishes.
The problem with the M206, at least for some, is that Rock Island does not classify it as +P.
