Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Bobert described the death of her son Beau Biden, an Iraq War veteran who succumbed to brain cancer during President Biden's State of the Union address.

Biden described the serious medical symptoms US troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan have endured from inhaling toxic fumes from "burn pits," saying many soldiers have developed "flag-draped chest cancer."

"You let them in. Thirteen of them," Bobert yelled later, referring to the terror attack at the gate outside Kabul airport this summer that killed 13 American officials.

The eruption brought immediate and loud bangs from inside the chamber. Biden appeared to look in Bobert's direction but continued his remarks by saying, "My son is Major Beau Biden," one of those killed by cancer. He admitted he didn't know if smoke exposure caused Beau's cancer but said he was committed to investigating any links.

Biden then introduced Danielle Robinson, the widow of Sgt. 1st Class Heath Robinson, a combat medic who was stationed "yards from burn pits the size of a football field" and later died, expanding Veterans Affairs coverage for nine respiratory cancers.

I couldn't keep quiet when Biden said the flag covered the casket. I said straight up that he did. He put 13 there. Our brave servicemen and women deserve so much better.— Lauren Boebert (@laurenboebert) March 2, 2022

Bobert, a right-leaning Republican member of the House, drew bipartisan criticism last year after he made Islamophobic comments about Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

The president's handling of the troop withdrawal drew bipartisan criticism, with lawmakers particularly upset that he did not have a plan to evacuate embassy staff and Afghan allies. The attack, which killed 13 army personnel, came days before a planned full withdrawal from the Taliban-controlled country.

About then-President Barack Obama's health care plan. Wilson later apologized but then continued to raise money from the controversy.
