Best Springfield 1911 - Whether you work in a gun shop, collect firearms, or search the Internet for great gun photos, it's easy to run into an endless array of cheap 1911 pistols. is over, there has been a tendency for companies around the world to produce clones and even small copies. Even with such a profound design to protect their soldiers, the military passed on patents and made copies of them. Springfield Armory's Defend Your Legacy Series MIL-SPEC 1911 is affordable, but certainly not cheap. This is one of the few instances where the phrase "You get what you pay for" does not apply. Want to know more? Let's dive right into our MIL-SPEC Legacy Series!
Springfield Armory has a line of three MIL-SPEC 1911 pistols and except for some finish differences and grip changes all the specs are exactly the same. As I mentioned in the introduction, this 1911 is not like the rest of the budget 1911s. Look at the details below, it is an obvious fact. Some of the details provided are from my observations of my review pistol and Springfield Armory's specifications on their product page.
Best Springfield 1911
The image above shows the contents of what I will call the older version of the Defend Your Legacy Series MIL-SPEC. The reason I say this is because Springfield Armory seems to have improved the packaging of this amazing vintage 1911 which was supposed to be my criticism. The "original" box was pretty poor, but it was clear that they tried to make everything as cheap as possible. It had these cardboard strips inside that I guess were supposed to hold the gun in some way, but every time I've opened these boxes, they've come apart and spilled out with the rest of the box's contents. The new packaging is the same as the Hellcat packaging and even includes a small dose.

The MSRP for the Springfield Defend Your Legacy Series MIL-SPEC 1911 is just $549.99. That's right, you can get a rough-tolerated, oiled-barrel 1911 for about $500. After shooting and handling this compared to others out there, this is an absolute steal! If you need a little personality in your life, but still want to keep it nostalgic, Springfield Armory offers two more MIL-SPECs. The other two available MIL-SPECs feature all the same features, but with the added addition of Crossed Cannon cocobolo grips, a total of two magazines, and the option of a stainless finish. The MSRP of the other two is $780 for standard parking and $876 for stainless.

Springfield Armory themselves clearly state that they have the street cred and quality to make MIL-SPEC properly and affordably. You could say that it's really important to pay respect to the 1911's long roots. See their statement below:
Don't be fooled by scammers. Like bearded hipsters in flannel, many 1911 people are just there to look. But Mil-Spec is true to its roots and rugged to the core. Built on a bolt-and-slide frame, the Mil-Spec carries on Springfield Armory's long heritage of quality 1911s. Traditionally styled and built on a full-size frame, it features a Mil-Spec 5″ barrel and bolt-on rear end barrels. The main cover is the original arch style found on G.I.-issue 1911-A1s, giving you a classic look with modern improvements for improved performance and reliability. For those who demand quality, the authentic 1911 Mil-Spec offers exceptional value and an incredible build. First Impression: Springfield Armory's Mil-Spec Old Series 1911 defenses
The first time I got my hands on the Springfield Armory MIL-SPEC Defend Your Legacy Series 1911 was at the gun shop where I work, and to put it simply, it's a solid gun. It is tight, balanced and beautiful. I have come across and worked with a large number of 1911 clones, all of which shall remain nameless, and none have been as impressive as this inexpensive piece of nostalgia. The slide is nice and tight, the action doesn't stop and feel unfinished, and the hand feel is natural and wonderfully balanced. The only missing part of the whole deal was the old box, which seems to have been fixed since then.
Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Mil Spec .45
That being said, this weapon is a perfect piece of World War II nostalgia. It looks complete thanks to the parkerized surface finish and nice bent wooden handles. Obviously, there's a match-grade stainless barrel under the hood that sets it apart from other MIL-SPEC clones.
Regarding commuting time, I have to admit that I did quite a few trips. Each time I made a point to use some other ammunition to eliminate any potential variants of this very good weapon. I am very excited and happy to say that I have never had any breakouts or signs of a breakout period. I used CCI Blazer 230 grain FMJ, Magtech 230 grain FMJ, Federal American Eagle 230 grain FMJ as well as some 165 grain "low back" Federal hollow points.
I have no complaints about the operation and firing of this 1911. Slide release was simple and easy. Security was positive and comfortable. Ejecting the magazine was easy and it comes out nicely with no stinging or sticking.
The target above was the first I shot out of the box. It was at 20 meters and I am very happy with it. I strongly believe this gun makes me a better shooter. I've never been very accurate, but as I got more familiar with this gun, my groups just got better. It was very clear to me that the tight tolerances make this gun extremely competitive with any budget 1911 you will ever pick up.
Springfield Armory Emissary .45 Acp 1911 Handgun: Review
I got this budget 1911 long before I looked it up and I can tell it's quality. When I finally got some much needed alignment, it was brutally clear that this was an amazingly well-made representation of a weapon that hit the scene a hundred years ago. It is wet, tight and weak. I truly believe that any 1911 fan and enthusiast would certainly be proud to own this fine example of craftsmanship and engineering.
The price is more than fair and I don't think it will change a bit. The quality and elegance you get for the MSRP of $549 should give you confidence and trust in the company that made it and provided it to you. Beautiful nostalgia that works really well, is worth the money. If anyone asks me about getting a great starter 1911 I send them this way!

Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Ronin
Features I can't live without? Forged steel. The material for the 1911 must be durable and of the highest quality. The Ronin has a stainless steel frame and a forged carbon steel hull. The hammered barrel holds the package. This makes Ronin a great choice.
There are a few other features on the 1911 that I have used so much that they are must haves on my 1911 pistols. These features are functional and ergonomic, such as tactical front sights, front-view sights and beaver grip safety. The Ronin has all three, starting with a fiber optic sight that's great for competition, a two-point hardened tactical rear sight, and a well-designed "memory hole" locking safety to ensure full engagement. . The light type adds to the appeal of this excellent pistol.
